RULES OF PLAY (PDF)

USGA RULES APPLY, unless otherwise noted in the Local Rules below.

GENERAL & LOCAL RULES

  • TEES: Play will be from the Blue Tees. The Gold Tees can also be used by Players 70 years of age or older as well as any player whose age and handicap is equal to or greater than 85.

  • PREFERRED LIES: Allowed in your own fairway within 1 Club Length, no nearer the hole. You may move the ball by hand or with your golf club. You are allowed to clean your golf ball when taking preferred lies.

  • BUNKERS: Rocks may be removed from bunkers, if they affect your swing path only.

  • EMBEDDED BALL RULE is in effect through the green (everywhere except in hazards). If a player's ball is embedded in its own pitch mark, the player is entitled to free relief.

  • CASUAL WATER - If your ball or stance is in casual water, the ball must be played within 1 club length of the nearest point of relief through the green, no nearer the hole.

  • CASUAL WATER in BUNKERS Players may drop the ball away from Casual Water in the bunkers. There is no penalty if the drop is made within the bunker, no closer to the hole. The drop must be made from shoulder height per the rules of golf. You may drop out of the bunker, no closer to the hole, with a one-stroke penalty. (Unplayable Lie)

  • Ground under Repair is marked by white paint and/or a Ground under Repair sign. Players are entitled to a free drop within 1 club length the nearest point of relief. In most cases this is behind the ground under repair. Tire Marks that make a significant rut are considered "Ground under Repair" and the player is entitled to free relief. NOTE: There is No free relief from the area of 4, 5, 12, 13 or 14 unless the areas are marked in white lines and/or Ground under Repair Signs.

  • WATER HAZARDS: are not always completely marked with Yellow or Red Stakes or Paint. The following areas are deemed to be water hazards at all times. NOTE: There are no drainage ditches at East Hartford Golf Course for Men's Club play.

Regular (Yellow)
#2 - front of tee; #6 - short of green; #7 - front of tee; #8 - pond front of tee; #9 - front of tee; #10 - front of tee;
#13 - pond short of green and water trenches left and right woods; #16 - short of green;
#17 - front of tee; #18 - short of green

Lateral (Red)
#1 - far right tall weeds behind 7th tee; #3 - short right woods; #5 - left and right woods on lower level;
#7 - right tall weeds before brook; #8 - left of green; #9 - long weeds far right of fairway near 7th tee;
#10 - tall weeds right and water trench left of cart path; #13 - water trenches left and right woods;
#14 - water trenches left and right woods; #15 - water trench right woods;
#16 - water trench right; #18 - water trench left.

SPECIAL NOTES

  • DOUBT AS TO PROCEDURE: If you have any doubt as to procedure, you may proceed under Rule 3-3a and play a second ball. If you have chosen to play a second ball under Rule 3.3a you must notify the Pro shop Staff before signing and returning your score card. The Rules Committee will make any final rulings, if necessary.

  • During the Club Championship, a weather delay of up to 2 hours will be allowed before cancellation of play. Any Flight that has fully completed play will have their rounds count in the Tournament. The Rules Committee and the Tournament Committee will decide the status of all Flights that have not completed play after cancelation of play.
